We are into the second week of September and the HalloweenTime season at the Disneyland Resort is now in full swing. When we were in the parks, the decorations were already going up, with some of the larger decorations being staged backstage. Haunted Mansion Holiday has reopened with a gingerbread house commemorating the 50th anniversary of the mansion. Time is quickly running out if you want to get tickets to the last remaining Oogie Boogie Bash Halloween party dates. Only October 20th and 29th are still available as of the time of our recording. If you are not going to the Oogie Boogie Bash this year, you can still watch some amazing nighttime entertainment. The Halloween Screams Fireworks are back for everyone, not just party guests! The show runs as a projections only show Monday through Thursday, and with fireworks Friday through Sunday through the HalloweenTime season. As has been the routine for the last few seasons, there is no shortage of treats for HalloweenTime. In fact, Disney has posted a foodie guide on the Disney Parks Blog. Once you are at the parks, you can also pick up a food guide at the gates. This year, there are Halloween churros, including a pumpkin spice version that is sure to be popular, a return of the Coco churro that comes with cinnamon and spicy cocoa dipping sauce. Other treats include candy corn cotton candy, a trick or treat sundae duo which includes two sundaes in one: a sour gummy ice cream with raspberry sauce, gunny treats, and fruit candies, and the other with chocolate ice cream, hot fudge, and chocolate candy bar pieces. A new meet and greet has come to New Orleans Square. The Hitchhiking Ghosts and the Bride from the Haunted Mansion can be seen around New Orleans Square Fridays through Mondays until November 4th. As we mentioned earlier, the gingerbread house that has been installed in the ballroom of Haunted Mansion Holiday this year celebrates the 50th anniversary of the attraction. The culinary team worked for 13 days to create this years confection. The gingerbread house stands 10 feet tall, is a replica of the exterior of the Mansion itself, contains 15 residents of the attraction ranging from 24 to 30 inches tall. With all of the decorations all over DCA, one thing that is missing this year are the bats flying out of the belfrie of the Carthay Circle Restaurant on Buena Vista Street. We noticed that they had not been installed when we were at the parks in late August, but they never materialized for the season. Right now is a great time to be an annual passholder at the resort. By stopping by the AP corner in the Tomorrowland Expo center, you can get a special Halloween themed magnet, two collectible buttons (the first on September 15th, the second on September 22nd), and a Oogie Boogie photo op. With the conclusion of the Main Street Electrical Parade at the end of the month, the Mickey and Friends Bandtastic Cavalcade will return. There are some new places to eat coming to Downtown Disney soon. The first is Asian Street Eats, which will serve a variety of Asian dishes, including mixed rice bowls, scallion pancake wraps, pot stickers, and more on the west end of the shopping and dining district. The Paradise Gardens are a great place to be right now as there are mariachi bands playing, and a new Coco meet and greet in the area. The marionette version of Miguel greets guests when he is not in the Musical Celebration of Coco show. Not too far from the resort will be a first. Coco Live in Concert will take place at the Hollywood Bowl on Friday, November 8th, and Saturday, November 9th. All star guests will be in attendance and will take the stage throughout the evening. Music is played by a full, live orchestra. Guests are encouraged wot wear festive Day of the Dead costumes. The curators of the history of Disneyland and the Walt Disney Company are celebrating a huge milestone next year. The Walt Disney Archives will launch their celebration with an exhibit at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana called Inside the Walt Disney Archives: 50 Years of Preserving the Magic. The exhibit opens on March 7th, 2020. The Exhibit is 10,000 square feet, includes more than 400 items, like production art from Fantasia, the original pitch portfolio used to secure investors for Disneyland, and more. If you are a D23 Gold Member, you can get an early look at the exhibit on a preview night, where archivists will also be on hand to answer questions.
