Permits have been filed for work to begin on the Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind. Flik’s Flyers will be relocated to the old location of the Maliboomer. Disney owned hotel guests have been delayed for the last couple of weeks during check in because of the online check in system being down. This has resulted in backups at the check in counter daily. There is no word on what the issue is, or when it will be resolved. It seems like just yesterday a new hotel was coming to the west side of Downtown Disney, causing a lot of options to close. With the new hotel plans on hold, at least one of these closed favorites is returning “for a limited time.” Earl of Sandwich is set to reopen as early as October 1st, with no closing date announced yet. Robert Niles over at the Orange County Register talked about the importance of Earl of Sandwich like venues in Downtown Disney. The argument he makes is that Downtown Disney hasn’t nailed the pricing range for the shopping district. Inside of Disneyland, you can purchase a corn dog or Dole whip and feel like you were as part of the experience of Disneyland as dining in the Blue Bayou. That is not the case in Downtown Disney. We have talked a few times about the gingerbread house inside of the Haunted Mansion this year, but have failed to talk about the decorations over at the Grand Californian Hotel lobby. This year there is an Oogie Boogie pump-“cake” patch, which features a giant Oogie Boogie pumpkin overseeing the rest of the jack o lanterns in the pumpkin patch. There are 13 hidden Mickey’s in the display which you can try and spot. The display itself is made from 200 pounds of powdered sugar, 40 pounds of eff whites, 180 pounds of rice cereal, 80 pounds of marshmallow, 60 pounds of butter, 80 pounds of dark chocolate, 60 pounds of white chocolate, and 300 pounds of fondant. – https://www.mouseplanet.com/12193/Disneyland_Resort_Update_for_September_17__23_2018.
Carlye Wisel over at Eater.com was invited to dine at 21 Royal, the almost Club 33 like experience in the space once occupied by The Disney Gallery, the Dream Suite and before that Walt’s Second Apartment that he never got to use. The dinner is priced at $15,000 and is for 12 guests, which comes out to be $1,250 a person. This includes VIP status for the day, valet parking at the Grand Californian, park hopper tickets, and a seven course meal. Carlye says that the food isn’t what makes this experience, although good, it is being in the space that Walt walked through and seeing Fantasmic! on the balcony after dinner. Another spirit jersey has dropped at the resort. If you like cotton candy, then this is the one for you! The new item is tie dyed and is reminiscent of the cotton candy that you can purchase throughout the resort. Disney had quite a few of these on hand expecting them to sell like crazy, but there are still plenty left on the shelves.
