We finally have a closing date for a bugs land. September 4th will be the last day for the first expansion area of Disney California Adventure. The theming in this land was amazing, although some of the attractions were simple, off the shelf ideas, they were great for kids. Also, who didn’t love Heimlich’s Chew Chew Train?
Disney has officially announced that they will be eliminating single use plastic straws and stirrers in the next year! This move will eliminate the use of 175 million straws and 10 million stirrers annually. The company has also planned to eliminate polystyrene cups, transition in-room hotel amenities (such as shampoo, soap, etc) to refillables in all hotels and cruise ships, and reducing the number of plastic shopping bags by offering guests the option to purchase reusable bags at a minimal price. – https://www.laughingplace.com/w/news/2018/07/26/disney-eliminating-plastic-straws-among-other-enviromental-initatives/ or https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2018/07/disney-expands-environmental-commitment-by-reducing-plastic-waste/

Rumor has it that a possible expansion may be coming for Whitewater Snacks at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel. Disney has filed permits with the City of Anaheim. Referred to as “White Water Grill & Bar” in the permits, the restaurant will have an outdoor seating and bar area. – https://www.mouseplanet.com/12161/Disneyland_Resort_Update_for_July_30__August_5_2018
In an announcement that should surprise nobody familiar with how Disney normally does things, Paint the Night and the Pixar Play Parade have been extended past the end of Pixar Fest on September 4th. The Pixar Play Parade is expected to run until the Christmas Fantasy Parade returns for the holidays. Paint the Night has no current end date at this time, but will continue to run until at least World of Color returns in the future. – https://www.laughingplace.com/w/news/2018/07/25/paint-the-night-and-pixar-play-parade-extended-at-disneyland-resort/
If you have visited the west side of Downtown Disney since the end of June, you probably noticed that there has been no further progress on the new hotel and security complex. There have been a lot of rumors as to why this is and with the addition of the food trucks in the area outside the former AMC theatres, it looks like it will be delayed for quite a bit still. Doug Marsh over at Laughing Place has done some digging and come up with a possible reason for the delay, It is quite an interesting story and we recommend checking out the full article linked in the show notes, but basically, there is an underground fuel tank that was left there from back in the 70’s that was forgotten about and needs to be addressed before construction can commence. – https://www.laughingplace.com/w/articles/2018/07/26/what-is-holding-up-the-disneyland-resort-hotel-expansion/
As we mentioned, with the delays in demolition and construction, a pop up food court has appeared in Downtown Disney. The old AMC theater courtyard has been decorated and furnished by Disney and has a fun yet simple design. The courtyard is filled with colorful tables and chairs, umbrellas, and brightly colored banners hanging from the arbor featuring some of your favorite characters. Disney has also invited some food trucks, serving burgers, wings and ice cream, to set up in the area as well. – https://www.mouseplanet.com/12161/Disneyland_Resort_Update_for_July_30__August_5_2018
The Pixar Film Festival has expanded to the Tomorrowland theater. You can take a break from the heat and enjoy 3 shorts; Lava, For the Birds, and Piper. – https://micechat.com/201151-disneyland-update-the-last-straw/
It seems like Disneyland is constantly in discussions on pay for the resort cast members. This last week, Disney reached an agreement with the largest labor unions to increase the minimum wages to $15.45 per hour by June, 2020. More than 1/3 of all cast members at the resort are affected by this agreement. – https://www.mouseplanet.com/12161/Disneyland_Resort_Update_for_July_30__August_5_2018
