Among the most shocking news that we have covered here on the podcast happened this last weekend. At the 10:30pm showing of Fantasmic! on Saturday, there was a malfunction with the system that the dragon in the finale, lovingly referred to as Murphy, which caused the dragon to catch fire, and was close to, if not a complete loss of the animatronic. No cast members or guests were injured, but some were treated for smoke inhalation. No official word from Disney on when the show will return or what they plan to do with the damaged dragon. In happier news, Disney has announced some things for the 2023 Halloweentime at the Disneyland Resort. First, the Oogie Boogie Bash is returning to Disney California Adventure on select nights this fall. Second, Mickey and Minnie have their costumes picked out already. Downtown Disney has a new location to grab brunch between 9am and 2pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Naples Ristorante e Bar will offer this new dining option soon. May the 4th is just around the corner, and some new treats have appeared in Galaxy’s Edge. Over at Kat Saka’s Kettle, a new Jakkuan Corn Chili and Cheese Pie has arrived for $6.79, along with a Peaches and Cream Chilled White Tea for $6.49. The cheese pie is made with roasted poblano pepper, corn, and mozzarella, and served with a citrus dipping sauce. A new eatery has recently opened in Downtown Disney. Clyde’s Hot Chicken has opened a booth in the shopping district selling chicken skewers. Clyde’s is known for their traditional hot chicken, among other menu items. Other locations include Fullerton. Disney Vacation Club members are going to want to hear this. The new Villas at Disneyland Hotel will go on sale to existing members on May 2nd, with public sales opening on May 30th. The resort itself will open on September 28th. The duo studios are themed to The Jungle Book, the deluxe studios are themed to Sleeping Beauty or Princess and the Frog, and the one and two-bedroom villas are themed to Princess and the Frog or Fantasia. It just wasn’t a good week for the Disneyland Resort. On Thursday, April 20th, the system used to allow guests to enter the parks crashed. Additionally, MagicBands were also nonfunctional. DVC members can also enjoy a break from the sun and crowds in the new Star View Station in Tomorrowland. The new DVC lounge opened this week in the upper section of the Star Wars Launch Bay. Another unofficial day is happening at Disneyland this Thursday, April 27th. Disney Nurses Day will hold its second annual event themed to Frontierland at Disneyland.
