Dapper Days – http://dapperday.com/

Hello Tage and Teresa,
First let me say thank you for all your hard work you put into all your podcasts. I am sure that all the research you put into the walk around Disneyland and D.C.A. took time away from your everyday life but helped to contribute to a more interesting and informative podcast. I stumbled across your pod while trying to find more news and up-to-date information for our upcoming trip(s) to Disneyland. We are fortunate enough to have annual passes (at least for this year before our youngest turns three and is still free), so I am always on the look out for new and interesting things to try/do while in the parks. Our last trip we all got to ride in the Captains tower and “steer” the Mark Twain around the Rivers of America. The way you guys talk about the parks show’s your affinity for them and your desire to share that love with others. Thank you and keep up the great work! Sorry about the length of this review:
So that brings me to the subject of the email, on our last visit to Disneyland and California Adventure we were lucky enough to partake in some of the Food and Wine Festival. We didn’t get a chance to try everything but we did look into the offerings before we arrived so we could make the most of the time we had. I will go up the corridor, from Carthay Circle towards the Golden Zephyr. From the California Craft Brews cart I had the Bottle Logic Brewing, Kingdom Common (festival exclusive), California Common beer and the White Cheddar Lager Soup in a Mini Boudin Sourdough Boule. This beer I had to try for the festival exclusivity alone, and it did not disappoint. It tasted similar to Anchor Steam’s pale ale with a little more hoppiness. The soup was delicious and I would totally have this again, that said when we got it, it was a fairly warm morning, but delicious none the less. Just past this cart is Peppers Cali-Ente, where we had the Verlasso Sustainable Salmon Peruvivian Poke with Cucumber-lime Salad and Aji Verde Salsa. This dish was perfection. Basically a deconstructed sushi roll with just the right amount of salad and salsa to make a whole new creation. I would gladly eat this everyday. I wanted to try the Jalapeno Popper Mac & Cheese with Bacon also offered in this booth but we just ran out of time, and room in our bellies. While we were in Disney California Adventure we were happy to be joined by my parents who had not been to Disneyland since 1994! Obviously this was their first visit to D.C.A. and they happen to be wine enthusiasts so they stopped at Uncork California, the main wine booth for Food & Wine, unfortunately I failed to pick their brain on which wine’s they had and what they thought of those glasses. I’m sorry. Onward up the corridor you find Strawberry Patch, where my eight year old really wanted to try the “Frushi” but other sweets were had, so this too was skipped over. We did eat and drink at Avocado Time, where my ten year old daughter had the Avocado & Pepper Jack Petite Guacamole Burger and my wife and I both had a couple of the Kikback Michelada’s, with flavors of Pineapple and Lime. She really enjoyed the burger, but wanted it to be bigger since it was basically a slider size burger, but overall she loved it. I think I had one of these Micheladas every day we were in D.C.A., which if you aren’t sure what they are, its basically a bloody mary with beer instead of vodka. It had a perfect amount of spice on the rim and the pineapple and lime flavoring was not overpowering of the beverage. I wish I could be drinking one now as I’m writing this. Up next we ate at Eat Your Greens, where we had the Grilled Asparagus Caesar Salad. This little but tasty plate was a bed of asparagus spears with cheese and croutons sprinkled over the top with a light dressing drizzle. When I first took a bite, I thought this dish would be hot for some reason (I blame the ‘grilled’ tag) but was cold like a salad typically is, but never-the-less still great. From Citrus Grove we only had the Meyer Lemon Macaron which was huge! seriously this macaron unlike it’s usual size being around a half dollar coin, this one was the size of my palm! It was light and crispy with the filling being just the right zest of lemon to it. Next up we ate the Fried Artichoke Carbonara from I <3 (heart) Artichokes. This looked like a little dish of nachos but instead of chips, you had artichoke hearts, Yum! I also snagged one of their Mumm Napa, Sparkling Wine, Brut Prestige, Napa Valley for my wife, because our next stop I got one of their beers which I liked but was just too hoppy for her, she has had this sparkling wine before so knew it would be a safe bet. That brings us to Cluck-A-Doodle-Moo and the name alone obviously made you want to stop and take in what they had to offer, which we had the Salt & Beer Vinegar Parmesan Chicken Wings and the Towne Park Brew Co., Pale Ale. I believe my parents had the Grilled Harris Ranch Beef Tenderloin Slider with Chimichurri Sauce. We were all satisfied with our food choices, only just that we wish the wings had more salt or vinegar to them, it was there, but could have really used just a bit more to really bring them to the forefront. While we were eating here, we happened to be right across from the stage where we heard the cover band “Grilled Cheese Soundwhich”, they were good but really their name was just perfect. Sadly that just about brings me to the end of my review of the Food and Wine Festival other than my wife’s Bloody Mary with Garlic-Stuffed Olive from the Garlic Kissed booth. She enjoyed this drink, but she was wishing at the time that she had just got two of the Michelada’s from down the way, instead of walking over to this booth.
Thank you guys so much for taking the time to at least read this for your enjoyment, and I know it’s supper long so it’s probably too much to use in the podcast, that said I love listening to you guys on my way to and from work. I would be happy to contribute anything else to the podcast with our returning trips to the park since we have been trying to go almost every month. My two year old is counting the days until Dumbo reopens but has since fallen in love with the Astro Orbitors where we almost timed it perfectly with riding them while the fireworks show was going on for our last night in Disneyland. I look forward to the next episode and hope you both have a great rest of your week.
P.s. The rose gold strawberry Churro’s are a skip unless you really like artificial strawberry flavoring. too sweet.
