Last week was Disneyland’s 65th Anniversary, but with the parks closed, there wasn’t a good way to celebrate so the Disney Parks Blog had a virtual celebration. This included a “Test your Disneyland” knowledge test on the blog, which we will have linked in the show notes. It is a good selection of easy to hard questions. (Tage got a 8/8). – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2020/07/quiz-test-your-disneyland-knowledge-65th-anniversary-edition/

More detailed blueprints for the new 12-story DVC tower coming to the Disneyland Hotel were released this week. The new concept art and blueprints give a glimpse into the layout of the area, and design of some of the guest areas, like the new Mickey “Ink and Paint” pool and interactive water feature. The lobby will be two stories tall and feature an open-air floor plan. The new tower is expected to take 4 years to complete, with opening as soon as 2023. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/07/new-artwork-and-blueprints-released-for-upcoming-12-story-disney-vacation-club-tower-at-disneyland-hotel-including-first-look-at-mickey-ink-paint-interactive-water-feature/

The Themed Entertainment Association released theme park attendance estimates for 2019 and it showed that theme park attendance at Disneyland and Walt Disney World is flat, despite the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The TEA doesn’t think that this is anything to be worried about as Disney shifts to providing a better experience to the guests attending and increasing their spending. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/07/disney-parks-attendance-flat-in-newly-released-2019-tea-aecom-theme-index/

When Disneyland does reopen and the Cast Members are welcomed back to the parks, the backstage areas will be 100% smoke-free. Smoking was removed from the guest sections of the parks last May, but this backstage removal is to help maintain social distancing in the sometimes cramped areas of backstage. Disney has also provided resources for Cast Members to stop smoking, if needed. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/07/disneyland-resort-announces-fully-smoke-free-backstage-areas-for-cast-members-ahead-of-reopening/

With the opening of Walt Disney World theme parks in Orlando, Florida, Disney has been able to see what works and what doesn’t in the parks in terms of safety measures required of guests. Some guests were finding loop holes in the policies, like walking around eating and drinking so they wouldn’t have to wear a mask, since that is allowed. They have closed that loop hole and now guests must eat and drink in place, while being socially distant. They have also tightened the types of masks that they accept. No bandanas or neck gaiters are allowed. PhotoPass photos taken with guests not wearing a mask are not available. – https://www.micechat.com/264693-disneyland-update-its-beginning-to-look-a-lot-like-progress/

All active Disneyland Resort Annual Passholders who have paid for their Passports in full will automatically have their Passport expiration date extended due to theme park closures to provide additional access opportunities at the end of the Passport term. The new expiration date will be reflected on the Annual Passholder’s Passport account prior to the reopening of the theme parks. As an alternative, and in lieu of an extension of their Passports, Passholders who have paid in full may choose to receive a partial refund for the theme park closure period. To request this alternative option, we ask that you contact Annual Passport Member Services at (714) 781-4567. We do anticipate heavy call volume and appreciate your patience as we answer all inquiries. Your Annual Passport should show a new date once the extension period has been determined. Please keep checking our updates as we will have more information to share soon.
